PCPPI delivers on environment stewardship commitments
Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI)—the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country—reaffirms its focus on sustainable business practices as it announced its recent wins on environmental protection and stewardship.
Recognizing the role of private sectors in minimizing plastic wastes that end up in the environment, PCPPI continues to practice light weighting to reduce their virgin plastic content in plastic packaging. The company said it had already reduced about 118 metric tons of plastic resin as of September 2021. This equates to almost six million single-serve Pepsi polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. PCPPI has also saved 36,000 kilograms of carton as secondary packaging through the light weighting initiative.
“PCPPI has fervently elevated our business practices to benefit the environment and the people. It’s still a long journey towards achieving plastic neutrality, but we are happy to see that we are making remarkable progress and positive impact on the environment,” said PCPPI president and chief executive officer Frederick D. Ong.
In 2020, PCPPI was able to save 76 metric tons or about 3.8 million single-serve PET bottles.
Clean-up Drives
PCPPI is also bolstering its water stewardship initiatives through its participation in various localized coastal clean-up activities. The company’s regional offices in Batangas, La Union, Cagayan De Oro, and Davao partnered with local government units and Environment and Natural Resources offices to collect wastes along coastal areas and bodies of water.
The company also supported the community clean-up drives and waste management activities by providing segregation bins in Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Rosario, La Union.
For their part, PCPPI Cagayan De Oro volunteered to participate in the Limpyo Dagat Program of Cagayan De Oro City to clean the stretch of Cagayan de Oro coast. Since 2019, PCPPI is the only private organization participating in the said program.
As part of its water stewardship program, PCPPI has adopted six water-bodies to create and implement sustained and long-term protection projects, together with partner local government units.
“The company respects water as its main resource and as everyone’s fundamental right. Through these activities, we are allowing our business to thrive sustainably, while benefitting the lives of the communities around us,” said Ong.
PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of well-known beverage brands in the Philippines: Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Tropicana, Lipton, Sting, Premier, Milkis, and Aquafina.
