GCash rolls out in the UK, Canada
The Philippines’ number one financial app, GCash, further expands its global reach as it officially rolls out in both the United Kingdom and Canada, enabling the first 1,000 Filipinos there to start using the e-wallet with their international mobile numbers.
Filipinos in Canada and the UK can begin signing up for GCash regardless of their SIM cards and start supporting their families back home by sending money for free (GCash to GCash), paying bills, and buying them prepaid load credits.
“GCash is now available to our kababayans in the UK and Canada thanks to strong support from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP),” said Martha Sazon, president of GCash. “As we prepare for the full launch of our overseas service later this year, we’ll be sure to make their experience of using the app the best as possible.”
“We’re also gearing up to reach more Filipinos across the world as we hope to make significant headway in achieving our vision of ‘Finance for All’,” added Sazon.
Earlier this month, GCash received the green light from the BSP to start the initial beta launch of its overseas service which allowed Filipinos in Japan, Australia, and Italy to use GCash using any SIM from those countries. This has made GCash the first and only e-wallet in the Philippines to offer this kind of service overseas. In March, the e-wallet also rolled out the beta service in the US.
In just a few easy steps, Filipinos in the UK, Canada, and the other mentioned countries can begin using GCash. First, they just need to download the app from Google Play Store for Android, the App Store for iPhone and iPad users, or the Huawei Gallery. Then, users can select their country and input their details. To verify their account, they just need to scan their Philippine passport or other valid IDs and take a selfie.
Users in the UK and Canada can also cash in via Remitly. In the Remitly app, select GCash as the e-wallet; enter the recipient’s name and mobile numbers; confirm the details and transfer the amount; and receive the funds straight in the GCash Overseas wallet. Finally, fully verified users can start sending money, paying bills, and buying load credits wherever they are, with just a few taps on the app.
Aside from making GCash services available to more Filipinos worldwide, the e-wallet has also been continuously expanding its international payments touchpoints in partnership with global fintech giant, Alipay+. GCash can now be used to pay in select merchants across countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Qatar as well as top European destinations like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.
