Doing it right, doing it twice: Dragon Edge Group gets Best Place to Work winning streak
Dragon Edge Group (DEG), the company behind Cycles Laundry Detergent and Beach Hut Sunscreen, has been recognized as one of the best companies in the Philippines for workplace quality, and has been awarded the Best Place to Work award for the second year in a row.
Companies that meet the highest criteria of excellence in employee experience and human resource (HR) practices are recognized by the prestigious Best Places to Work, in collaboration with Best Companies Group. The group evaluates the treatment and culture of workers in businesses all around the world, taking into account factors including working conditions, pay and benefits, relationships, motivation, training, well-being, career development, and culture.
“We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve our customers and work alongside amazing teams. This award belongs to the DEGsters, who are passionate, hardworking individuals committed to our mission in spreading joy, excellence, and positivity through our products,” says Dennis Balajadia, Dragon Edge Group Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer.
The back-to-back win is a testament of DEG’s commitment to excellence and sustaining a positive employee culture, which is beneficial to creating remarkable brands and products.

Excellence in leadership and employee culture
Dragon Edge Group has been making amazing brands that make people’s lives happier since 2005. The company’s success is attributed to a driven workforce under the direction of equally driven executives who make sure that only the highest-caliber goods are delivered to stores and our homes.
In addition to providing goods for consumers, DEG cultivates an innovative workplace culture and a healthy work atmosphere that inspire employees to come up with fresh concepts and solutions. This has grown to be a key component of the company’s success as DEG leadership and employees, referred to as “DEGsters,” operate with integrity and excellence, practice tamang diskarte and ensuring that tasks are completed on time, care for customers, and maintain humility. As a result, “DEGsters” expand their creativity and reach their full potential.
For the purpose of fostering the development of staff members into capable leaders within the organization, DEG offers leadership initiatives and programs. Prestigious institutes like Wharton School and Ateneo Graduate School of Business provide DEGsters the opportunity to earn master’s degrees as well.
A crucial factor in DEG’s success is also open communication with its staff. The company improved certain aspects of its corporate culture, like offering a retirement payout to DEGsters who are getting close to this time of life, by speaking with staff members and getting helpful input.
“We listen to our employees and we take note of feedback that would help us improve as a company, as long as it’s aligned with our values,” says Emily Balajadia, Dragon Edge Group Co-founder and Mother of Marketing.
Producing remarkable brands and innovations
In 2006, Dragon Edge released its debut product, a bottle of Beach Hut Sunblock, which at the time was the only spray-on sunblock available locally. Their ability to innovate led them to develop other brands that defied convention and pioneered a number of goods, including Cycles, the first baby detergent, and Cradle, the first natural baby bottle and nipple cleaning.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, DEG quickly responded by creating and distributing COV-X alcohol in just 11 days to help communities to stay safe and healthy.
Encouraging DEGsters to express their creativity comes first. Dennis and Emily Balajadia, the company’s founders, feel that “relaxed, informal settings” yield the finest ideas, therefore they push the staff to think creatively and unconventionally in order to create campaigns that will attract attention for their businesses. Some of the wildest ideas have sprung from this, such as Beach Hut’s 2017 launch as the first sunblock to fly to space, which was created during a business drinking event.
Additionally, the business has grown across the country and has been selling goods in Indonesia since 2006. This not only made it possible for DEG to expand even further, but it also gave staff members lots of chances to advance both inside and beyond the organization.

Doing good work for the community
With innovative solutions that improve customer experience, DEG’s strategy enables the organization to take on obstacles head-on. 2012 saw the opening of Beach Hut Bar in Boracay as one of the company’s brand initiatives. In addition to providing a place to enjoy the beach atmosphere with great music and specialty cocktails, it shielded visitors from the sun’s harmful rays. In addition, Beach Hut installed the first sunscreen selling machines in Boracay and Caticlan Airport to protect tourists from the sun.
When it comes to carrying out CSR programs for communities, the company also employs innovative methods. With a goal of motivating young girls to pursue their aspirations on and off the field, Beach Hut Sunscreen has been operating for five years with the goal of fostering and growing grassroots women’s football.
This year, the brand hosted the first-ever Women’s Beach Football Festival, showcasing the brand’s dedication to empowering Filipina athletes.
With the goal of protecting the environment for the younger generation, DEG is also setting the standard for sustainability with the introduction of recycling bins, Cycles and Cradle refilling stations, and eco-friendly packaging.
Dragon Edge Group goes beyond creating game-changing products. Being recognized as a two-time Best Place to Work awardee emphasizes how they prioritize a culture of joy and celebration, translating into a passionate team that thrives on achieving and spreading positivity. This ultimately creates a ripple effect into DEG’s employee benefits, CSR initiatives, and how they push to improve the quality of life of their customers and communities. As Dennis declares, “This is just the beginning. We have set the standard with our Best Place to Work awards, and it is now up to us to uphold and surpass it.”
