Pasig City, February 15, 2019—Prestone Philippines, a leading innovator of cutting-edge coolants, brake fluids, and motor oils, bagged a silver award for its Anak ng Mekaniko Scholarship Program during at the 54th Anvil Awards.

Presented annually by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), the Anvil Awards is recognized as the premier award-giving body in the communications industry that symbolizes excellence in public relations.

Prestone’s Anak ng Mekaniko Scholarship program emerged as one of the recipients of the coveted award under the PR Programs Targeted at Specific Stakeholders category.

In line with its 90th Anniversary, Prestone initiated the nationwide search aimed at choosing nine students, who deserve a chance at receiving a tertiary education through the Anak ng Mekaniko Scholarship program.

“Prestone designed this program to help local auto mechanics not just by providing them with top-of-the-line products to use for their livelihood, but more importantly, could ease the financial burden of sending their children to school,” said Paolo Lao sales and marketing director of Clorox Southeast Asia.

The program also shines a light on the fundamental human right to a good education regardless of one’s age, gender or status. It puts into focus the lengths to which parents would go to give their children a better life.

The scholarship program did not require the nine selected scholars to enroll in automotive technology or a similar vocational course. Instead, it was set up to provide a free college education for any degree that they want to have.

Receiving the award during the Anvil Awards’ Gabi ng Parangal were Prestone executives, together with Kieth Bryan Perez, one of the recipients of the scholarship grant, and his parents, as well as representatives from Prestone’s communication and activation partners Themeactive, Inc. and PRC, Inc.

Parents with kids who are interested in ballet and theater can now enroll them in the Promil Four i-Shine Talent Camp, the highly anticipated talent development program that’s bigger and better this seventh season! The theater and ballet camps are new additions to Promil Four i-Shine Talent Camp’s classes in visual arts, music and modern dance.

Parents may now enroll their kids, ages six to eleven years old, in the camps offered in Metro Manila, Batangas, Cebu and Davao this summer.

Mentored by stage veteran Audie Gemora of Trumpets Playshop, the theater camp will harness children’s gift in self-expression, stage acting and performing arts. Meanwhile, the ballet camp will be led by Liza Macuja of Ballet Manila and aims to nurture children who show potential in having smooth, delicate and fluid movement on stage. Ballet classes for kids in Metro Manila will be on April 22 – 26, May 2 – 4 and May 6 – 7 at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City. The ballet camp in Batangas will be on April 1 – 5 at the Steps Dance Studio in Lipa City, while for Davao, it will be on April 22 – 26 at the Metro Fitness and Family Gym in Davao City.

Promil Four i-Shine talent camp also offers classes in music, arts and dance. The classes will be led by masters in various fields of discipline: Robert Alejandro of Papemelroti and Kara Escay for the Art Camp, maestro Ryan Cayabyab for the Music Camp, celebrity choreographer Teacher Georcelle of G-Force for the Dance Camp.

The art camp in Metro Manila will be on April 22-26 in 8 Rockwell, Makati and on May 2 – 4 and 6 – 7 at Papemelroti, Quezon City. The art camp for Cebu and Davao will be on April 8 – 12 at the Jumping Clay, in Gov. M. Cuenco Ave., Banilad, Cebu City and in La Cima Building, respectively.

The dance camp in Metro Manila will be on April 22 – 27 in G-Force Dance Center in Quezon City and on April 29 – May 4 at the G-Force Dance Center in Alabang. For Cebu, the dance camp will be on April 29 – May 4 at the G-Force Dance Center in Cebu City.

Promil Four i-Shine Talent Camp will open its music camp in Metro Manila on April 8 – 12 and April 22 – 26 at the Music School of Ryan Cayabyab, Robinson’s Galleria while in Cebu, it will be on April 22 – 26 at the Brown Academy of Music, Gov. M. Cuenco Ave., Banilad in Cebu City.

The Sun Crew, represented by co-founder and manager, Wemar Bonono, receives multiple awards as main winner and the Coke Barkada Awardee at the 16th Ten Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) Awards. 

Siargao has witnessed a major spike in tourism in recent years because of avid Filipino and foreign surfers flocking to the surfing capital. Because of this, many local children have also developed a passion for the water sport. Seeing this desire among the local youth, a group of dedicated individuals were inspired to put up the Sun Crew, using surfing as a tool to make a positive change in the lives of the island’s locals.

At the 16th Ten Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) Awards, the Sun Crew was recognized as one of the main winners and was honored with the Coke Barkada Award for its innovative programs that have empowered local children and communities to build a brighter future and play a key role in protecting the environment.

Coca-Cola Foundation president, Cecile Alcantara, awards the special Coke Barkada Award to Sun Crew co-founder and manager, Wemar Bonono, for the Sun Crew’s initiatives on education and environmental protection. 

Wemar Bonono, Sun Crew manager and co-founder, shared that his inspiration behind establishing the organization was to help the local children, especially because of his own experiences growing up in the island. At 14, Wemar dropped out of school and decided to work as a surfing instructor to provide for his family.

“Actually, noong bata pa ‘ko hindi ako nag-e-eskwela kasi sobrang hirap ng buhay noon kasi wala pang tourists. Tapos ‘yung mga bata, ayaw ko rin na matulad sa akin. Marami silang nagtatanong kung pwede ba silang sumali at sabi ko ‘You’re welcome to join!’ Hindi kami namimili, basta nag-e-eskwela lang, ‘wag nila kalimutan yung pag-aaral, ‘yun ang importante,” shared Bonono.

To improve the children’s school attendance and to provide them with skills that will alleviate them from poverty, the Sun Crew started the Smart Sustainable Surfers (SSS) program where children earn Surfer Points for attending school and participating in other programs in exchange for surfboard use and surfing lessons. The SSS program resulted in a 100% increase in school attendance, with students attending 4 to 5 times a week.

Aside from motivating students to attend school; one of the main thrusts of Sun Crew is to make the children and the local community the custodians of the island’s environment. To address the increasing waste that is produced with rising tourist arrivals, Sun Crew conducts weekly beach clean-ups with the help of the Smart Surfers, locals, and volunteers; collects and segregates the waste of the barangay; and holds eco-bricking and up-cycling sessions.

8990 Holdings, listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange under the symbol “HOUSE” and one of the fastest growing real estate developers in the Philippines, announced that its board of directors approved a P2 billion share buyback program that excludes the company’s majority shareholders from participating in the program.

“Our share buyback program reflects the board’s confidence in our financial performance and commitment to increasing shareholder value while maintaining the liquidity of 8990’s stock in the market as well as public ownership requirements,” said 8990 Holdings president and chief executive officer Willie J. Uy. “The exclusion of shareholders with controlling stakes in the company underlines 8990’s commitment to providing true shareholder value.”

8990’s board of directors authorized the repurchase of up to P2 billion of the company’s common stock. The purchases may be up to 18 months from the approval unless the period is otherwise shortened by the board of directors. The purchases will depend on market conditions and subject to regulatory considerations. Controlling shareholders such as iHoldings and Kwantlen Development Corporation, which own a combined 61.88 percent stake in 8990 Holdings, voluntarily offered not to participate in the repurchase program as an act of good faith to its existing shareholders.

Under the program, share buyback transactions will be triggered in cases the company feels the shares are “substantially undervalued,” there is high share price volatility or that the buyback would enhance shareholder value.

“We plan to repurchase shares using cash and book as treasury. We assure our shareholders that the implementation of the program will not affect any of 8990’s prospective and existing projects and investments,” noted Uy.

8990 aims to be one of the Philippines’ top real estate developers. Its landbank of close to 540 hectares is projected to deliver approximately P154 billion in sales in the next eight to ten years.

For 2019, 8990 is guiding a 17 percent year-on-year growth on its topline from P11.5 billion to P13.5 billion by the end of the year.

8990 Holdings, through its DECA brand, has completed more than 50,000 units over the past 14 years nationwide. Its projects in Luzon, particularly Urban Deca Homes Manila in Tondo, is expected to generate close to 50 percent of 8990’s 2019 revenue target of P13.5 billion which is seen to translate to P5.2 billion in net income.
